The Hudson Valley boasts some of New York state’s finest farms. With more than 33,400 farms statewide (as of 2017), amounting to 24% of the state’s total land area, New York is most well-known for its milk and dairy products – ranking third nationwide for milk sales. Our state leads the nation in a variety of dairy products such as milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, and yogurt. And of course, we are almost equally as known for our apples and maple syrup, ranking 2nd nationwide and 3rd for the production of grapes and wine. Out of the 33,400 farms, a whopping 1,340 are certified organic, making it the 3rd in the country for the number of organic farms, some of which can be found in the Hudson Valley’s 2,200 farms.
